If you're an avid reader like me, when you stop for lunch and forget your book you'll pick up just about anything that has words on it. It happened just the other day and I realized you can learn some pretty interesting things that way. Here's some Winter trivia for you.

Did you know?.....

The first day of winter is also called winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. And to some of us "stand your egg on end day". A room temperature, raw egg really will stand on its end (not the pointy one) if you balance it carefully. And it can stay that way for a day or more. Try it with the kids!

The largest snowflake on record was 8"x15". Now why would anybody have a ruler handy just waiting to measure snowflakes?

The coldest temperature ever recorded is -128.6 Fahrenheit in Antarctica in 1983. And we think Chicago is cold. Ten inches of snowfall melts down to one inch of rain. Think about that next time it rains hard then be grateful it isn't snow!

The tallest snowman ever made was 113' tall with tires for eyes and trees for arms. Imagine the mess when that melted.

Some frogs actually freeze solid to survive the cold winter months. Florida sounds better to me.

A cleaned and tuned furnace will lower your energy costs and give you more reliable service when the temperature drops.

The federal tax credit of up to $500.00 on high efficiency equipment expires on December 31 2011.

Just one last thing before we go. All of us at GFI wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. We hope you can spend it with family and friends celebrating. Even when times are tough, we have so much to be thankful for. We are truly grateful for our wonderful, loyal customers. Some of you have been with us for so many years that you really do seem like family.
